I'm ignorant on this, and so many other things, but I keep seeing David Brasch described as a breeding guru.
As I'm keen to learn, can someone please tell me what his history is with actually breeding a top-notcher of his own?
I'm not talking about recommended breedings for someone else (we have enough people in this industry doing that) because you never, ever hear about the 90% failures, I'm talking about him putting his money where his mouth is.
I'm also not trying to disparage David; but I;m keen to learn about his own successes.

Who you choose to go to at the end of the day, is yours.
I like getting David Brasch to do the reports to help me look outside the box, gives me an accurate reason why, examples of when the breeding has clicked previous and what has worked for others.
Is alot bigger factors like rearing, break in, pre training and the work to get them to the track which is the bigger issue.
Obviously David Brash is not part of the man train on this forum that have continuous loaded topics to enable opportunities for self promotion, not saying this is one Michael but it seems to be the common theme on here in recent times.
An architect designs a house and the builder builds it. The result of the finished product will depend on the quality, resources available and eye to detail of the builder.
Do I call David Brash a guru, I probably do because his knowledge of pedigree and journalism far exceeds mine. Is it David calling himself a guru, or has the industry given him that label. For me thats where the difference sits.

What dribble Nathan! But seeing you want to drag me into it.
All I have to say, like Ive mentioned elsewhere. Good to see David breeding again with Rasheda. As IMO, you should have skin in the game, if youre going to offer breeding advice. Expecting others to do what you yourself arent willing to do, I just dont get??

Ill always be a breeder first and foremost!
Happy to be wrong mate, just calling how I see it.
Plenty of people have followed his recommendations and have done well so whats the problem here

Sandro,
I don't think there's a problem at all, I'd just like to have a look at any litters he's bred so I can get my head around why he went a particular way with the breeding.

Why don't you just email him instead of parading him on here

Oh man....
I asked what I thought was a reasonable and, imho, respectful question about someone who is admired by so many and from whom I reckon I could presumably learn a lot.

Thats all u asked Micheal , very simple ?
Wouldnt even flinch at the usual bent angles and places Poeple respond with on here .
Its breeding Micheal .. all a guessing game bud and choosing an angle and or an idea of what you believe in and run with it , proven by the matings displayed above , 5 litters for 1 winner and then changing tack and breeding from the most successful technique in using a city Bitch that could run distance .
Not a lot to figure out on where to begin and put yourself in the larger percentage pool to receive the best result possible , after that the choice of sire in short is purely what sires have worked at GRP level over 500 + thru your dam in past generations and line breeding them back into your brood which is what a specialist like Brasch and co. will research and explain in their brood summary
Get that good Bitch Micheal and shell do the rest , doesnt matter who you are , what you know or what youve done in the past .

"Parading him on here"?
I give up.
Michael
Come on, maybe I am being cynical, but I am really struggling to come to terms with the the sincerity of your question.
It seems you are trying to hold him accountable for his own breeding ventures and justify what he selects.
For what purpose?
So, if he hasn't bred a Group 1 winner himself, whats your next comment going to be?
He has never come on here spouting or bragging on what he has or hasn't bred.
Why should he start now?
He's the most renowned & respected breeding advisor in this country and gives advice for which you pay for, if you want it.
He helps plenty of people and provides the answers you seek in his written report on a breeding female.
He also provides heaps of information on his website which gives you the insights on how he selects partners for broods.
So why should he answer your questions and parade himself at your whim on GD?
He doesn't need the business, I am guessing he is booked out.
As Nathan has said, get yourself a nice bitch you intend to breed with it and go from there

If the bitch is not a producer it will not matter what you cross over in blood relation. More credit needs to be given to the brood bitch. If it was as easy as line breeding through different individuals every one would have good dogs. I dont see a problem with anyone asking for results of david as people pay him for his service ..

No one said it was easy but it does work.
Why do lines die out in your opinion Paul?

Thank you all for your responses.
I'm purely just an owner these days; the last litter I bred was over 20 years ago but the last pup I bought was about 12 months from GD classifieds.
I have no hidden agenda, I just thought if I knew a little of David's methods it'd help me in my next purchase.
BTW, I've never met DB but I've heard and read nothing but good things about him.
I didn't expect him to come on here and explain himself, I just thought someone might know of some of the litters he's bred so that I could study them to see if there's a common factor.
Nothing more, nothing less.

What youre saying Ryan is it does work well why arent all bitches on giveaway snapped up to breed? The lines dying out I belive is due to not breeding the producer as for example iv had over 30 bitches from the line I breed now iv only just about to breed the third bitch so if this line was to die out it would be that I selected the wrong ones to breed with that didnt produce thats not to say the other ones may of had the golden ticket to keep line going . So thats my explanation for lines dying out

Yes, good point Paul.
With your experience is there any indication to yourself of which bitch may be the right one in the litter to start breeding with?

Paul
As you say, if your bitch is not a producer then you may not get the big Group dogs that you want, regardless of the compatibility of the mating
However, a properly constructed mating can maximize whatever that bitch you are using has to offer and the next gen bitches might be better as you have loaded the lines with favourable genes, if you have the patience and the money to carry on
Regardless of whether David has produced his own Group dog or not for himself, over the years, he has engineered probably hundreds for those who have used his services
No one can ever proclaim to know the secrets of breeding and genetics, but a guy like him who studies bloodlines and all the various successful nicks day in day out, has a far better idea than most people

I don't agree with 1 "main" thing David Brasch doesn't take into consideration. BUT we "all" can learn a thing or two from someone like him. Never stop learning & do NOT think you know it all. There are alot of variables & angles to all facets of the industry. A fair bit of luck involved, but is about playing the %'s & therefore reducing the risks. Not unlike investing.
