Hi Robynne, I don't confess to being a guru but I have studied colour genetics for a fair few years. Mainly after I watched a breeding seminar that was held at Albion Park. On top of some of the best invited to sit on the panel, a lady who was a genetics expert was extremely interesting to listen to. She sort of confirmed my theories on the subject. Is not much different to human genetics. If I can be of any assistance, just send me pm. Or email, [email protected]

Hi Robynne I bred Frenchies for five years and focussed in the more "exotic" colours so I had to learn all about colour genetics to try and work out what matings to do to get the colours I was after. Fascinating stuff. But in a nutshell, you need to know what copies of what colours both dogs have to have a good crack at knowing colours. Because it was important for me to know, I dnaed all my dogs but in short - a pup usually needs two copies of a gene to show that colour visibly so it needs one copy from each parent. For instance if you put a black dog with two copies of black over a bitch with two you will get all blacks. If she has one, you will get some blacks , if she has none you will get no blacks. Brindle is dominant so you only need one copy of brindle to get a bindle pup. Fernando can only produce pieds (which is what he actually is) if the bitch carries pied (she can be a solid colour but if she carries one copy of pied the pups could pick that up and combined with Nandy's pied - you could get pied. SO much more to it but that is it in a nutshell.

Hi Robynne,
I would not claim to be a "guru" but would be interested in the greys involved in your proposed mating and would love to be able to try and work out what you could expect from a mating.
I think I tried to do something similar some time ago but my memory is not what it was and I may be wrong on that.
The real expert was a guy whose name a cannot recall but who came from Australia.
Best regards, Maureen
p.s. if you prefer not to involve me I will fully understand and I wish you all the best with the proposed litter
