It's not the point and you know it.
You would be hard pressed to find someone who barracks for the underdog more than me. If I bred Quinny's litter I would be just as proud and good on him. Being proud and being obnoxious are two different things, Ryan.
Each to their own and I don't begrudge anyone being successful...the more the battlers win, the better, in my opinion.
It's interesting to see how success can affect different people.
All good, hope Quinny's run continues....good entertainment. He'll probably have to upgrade to a full size ex council bus and cut the top off if that happens.

all that's fine, everyone's had those times, however the original question was " whats it cost to breed a litter of pups.? " which was answered by Jamie in a very positive manner and encouraging way, which is exactly what the industry needs at this time imo.

Answered yes.But how realistic are those figures. Could I really Get my bitch from day 1 of her season to a litter of pups to 12 weeks of age for $2000.No other costs? I think not.

Yes Quinny did answer the question. BUT not all have acreage and able to rear-whelp down their own, HUGH COST. Some breed cattle, access to free meat also. Perhaps the thread should read "Cost to Breed a litter" with or without a property? On the flip/side! Quinny: How much did it cost you to set up? Kennels, Yards, Pens, Sprint-Lanes?, Straight track, Bull-Pen, Lure/Rail and Arm? FENCING, (Posts-Wire), Tractor? Ride on Mowers, Brush/Cutter, Dog/beds/coats, Kitchen/set up (hot/cold water Electricity to shed etc. These expenses haven't been taken into account when stating ALL COSTS TO BREED A LITTER! That costs money to!

Our last two litters. And we only breed two per year.
Litter one stud fee $1500. Implant $500.00 bits and pieces $ 250 no cost for pink card Result 12 pups

Here's your answer. It costs everyone different amounts of money to raise a pup or get it reared and all the amounts shown above are a guide only.
My example is.
Stud dog = what ever you want to pay. Insemination = $700 Whelping to 3 months = $3500 Rearing = at cost.
The biggest winner you can have is having a trusting partnership with the person that's looking after your dogs and they knowing you will look after them and you knowing they will look after you.

You're not gonna like this Tezzla. Our property came with 2 tractors, slasher, rotary hoe, discs, water cart, etc. Also 1600 vineyard posts, 900m of mesh fencing wire. 5 bay car garage which is now race kennels (cars outside). Not sure about Ettrick mate but in Merbein South we already have electricity to the shed. Outdoor laundry/bathroom serves as the kitchen.
What can I say, I'm blessed...
Oh hang on, had to buy a drag lure for $450. Thats it, I'm getting out of dogs.

IMO the cost of breeding haven't really changed that much over the past few years in vic anyway.

... petrol ... houses .... gas ... elec
The list could go on.
For me when you look at prize money on offer why wouldn't you look at breeding if you think your bitch my throw.

This is a never ending argument that's been debated for years. Regardless of all the obvious costs of someone else doing it for you in regard to whelping , rearing , Breaking in etc ..... Yea you save money if you have the ability to do the above yourself but it's still costs you plenty !!! And by that I mean in time and effort.
But I'll always have a crack with pups cause it's the only way your going to have a chance of getting your hands on that elusive superstar without spending six figures
